Zoey needs a break after some serious excitement. Sadly, the House of Night school for vampyres doesn’t feature breaks on its curriculum—even for a High Priestess in training and her gang. Plus juggling three guys is no stress reliever, especially when one is a sexy Warrior so into protecting Zoey that he’s sensing her emotions. Wider stresses lurk too, and the dark force in Tulsa’s tunnels is spreading. Could Stevie Rae be responsible for more than a group of misfit fledglings? And Aphrodite’s visions warn Zoey to stay away from the immortal Kalona and his dark allure—but they also show that only Zoey can stop him. She’s not exactly keen to meet up, but if Zoey doesn’t go to Kalona he’ll exact a fiery vengeance on those closest to her. She just has to find the courage to do what’s necessary, or everything that’s important to her will be destroyed.

 My Review
Stark is back within the realms of the good, and kalona and neferat have gone somewhere else to mend after having being chased of by zoey and the others, who this time were not her circle of elements Things really did kick of in the last book and yet we know that is not the be all and end all because things are never finished that easily, in fact that usually means there is more crap to come for the characters. Everyone might appear and seem safe where they are, no one is hurt nor damaged, and yet they all know that they can not stay there within the tunnels, especially now that neferet and kalona have gone. No in fact the best place for them to be is probably home, the tulsa house of night of course. Its just a matter of whether everything has partially gone back to normal there, or whether everything will still be all up in the air, with the pods as they like to call them, still claiming the ground is not good enough for there erubus, or well kalona. None the less, all the house of night kids are missing the safety of the house of night, even the red ones, as we like to call them, would like to go back. Problem was that no one expected to go back to what they did go back to.

When they all get back to the house of night there are fires burning, getitng rid of the dead raven mockers bodies. Everyone who has chosen not to believe neferet and her lies is seriously hurt, or dead. Yes, in this book we discover that professor anastasia is dead!. Poor dragon is left to mourn her death and the kids who tried to protect her and save her are too harmed to stand by his side and mourn with him. It seems that kalona and neferet coming after zoey meant that the rest of the raven mockers went crazy, and whilst some of them may have fled, a few of them certainly got the death they were intended to have.... well that is apart from one.

Yes, if it wasnt bad enough that Stevie rae was alrady holding back secrets from the gang, its another fact to say she now has an even bigger secret in the form of kalonas precious son, rephaim. A part of me was hugely screaming at the book at this point wonderinf why she wsa keeping such a dark creature within safetys hands, not jut killing him off like he even asked her to but helping him to mend. I know at this point that I became annoyed and yet confused by stevie raes actions, but the more I seemed to think about the more I realized she was still followinf nyxs path of free will and choice, except she was giving it to the bird like creature that still unfortunately could not be trusted.

So whilst we have the fact that stevie rae is holding secrets, but has already told them about the rouge red fledgings who have not chosen the side of good, we also have the fact that zoey still has to kill kalona because until he is dead, all hell is going to break loose. But thats easier said than done and that is pretty much always the case when it comes to a book really, because at that moment in time kalona and neferat are at the high council in italy presenting themselves as being the next high priestess and kalona as being erubus. has to make you chuckle now really doesnt it? Of course this all means that they all have to go to italy to prevent this happen, how else would they have got around it all after all. So off they jet, apart from stevie rae who tries to protect the rouge red fledgings and of course the raven mocker.

I think in this book we almost see an over kill of drama though because things are not quite working out. stevie rae tries to do good but the rouges want her dead. they dont care about her leadership skills and dont want to be led by her at all. In there attempt to kill her, rapheim saves her, and in that attempt they become imprinted with one another therefore breaking the bond between stevie rae and aphordite which leaves her in a huge amount of pain. put that on top of all the boopoppie as zoey would say about what neferet and kalona are telling the whole hugh council and you get drama drama drama drama. But its the ending that really captivates you, because you just didnt expect it.

I think we all kind of want and need a heath in our life, who will take care of us, love us and always be there for us no matter what. in fact you almost feel like you are kinda in a relationshp with him in this book because we seem to get close to him without really knowing him at all. Which is why the ending is particularly sad. Heath was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and zoey couldnt get there in time to save him. She witnesses his death and she does, her soul shatters, leaving behind nothing but a soulless and yet breathing shell. I remember getting to this bit the first time and needing the next book that wasnt yet out. It broke my heart and even reading it a second time it brought tears to my eyes.

The way the authors captured the ending there was just so well done, that you felt every bit of it, all the essences of it and you knew what was occuring and how. you just seemed to really identify and understand that part of the b ook more so than the rest of it and it really did break my heart.

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing
