Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her

 My Review
In a way the book itself was more like a female inclined version of harry potter, except it was a school about a demon school etc. It reminded me of a roleplay that I have been doing for years where the school is based around demons etc, and all sorts of different things occur that are considered unsuaul in some formation or another. Would I say that I enjoyed it so much that I want to read it again, No not really. However I would say that it was an ok read and it got the story out which was alright. you could kind of predict what was going to happen and so I suppose I did miss the kind of mystery element that could have been produced within the book had it just been worked on a little more. My favorite character was Jenna. She just seemed to have the most favorable personallity in my eyes and it was her style and her sense of being that really caught my attention. The book itself was ok but I kept getting the feeling that the level of maturity that harry potter has, was missing somewhat in this book. maybe its just because I am older than what I was when I first read harry potter, perhaps my expectations have changed considering the now wide variety of books that I do actually read.

I wouldnt though, say that the book was a bad one. its the sort of book I would pick up say if I wanted an easy but enjoyable read. something that you can read without really needing to focus on it 100% and yet at the same time, just enjoy what the plot has to offer. There was a sense of surprise element in the book, but a lot seemed to happen. I just think that the book seemed to have a whole lot of different elements to it, buffy meets harry potter meets whatever other fantasy novels match up with this one. Yes I will. continue to read the series though because I want to see how she copes with what she is, what challenges she has to face etc. but my expectations for it being a series on my top ten is pretty low at the moment. I can only remain hopeful that it gets better as it goes on.

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing
