Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush.
Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life.
When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily-ever-after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned

My Review
An easy, simple and basic read that really didn't need a whole lot of attention to it in order to understand what was occuring. BUT none the less it was still an enjoyable read, merely for the sake of its imagination, it's iamgery, the way the characters were presented to the reader and the way it seemed to have this essence of life to it. I am not sure that I would classify this book as a young adult novel though because it seemed to be that sort of book you would read when your in the between stages of teenager and young adult, that awkward phase where you want to read but also can't be bothered to read. The book seemed to move really quickly so that before you knew it you were at the end. In many ways you could actually tell that this was somewhat based a little of off the little mermaid. The mer girl who wants to be human and wants to fall in love and live on land. Except in this novel its not impossible at all. She oees live on land and she does fall in love.
What I disliked about the book was the fact that it was very predictable, there was no sense of mystery to it what so ever, to a point where you kind of knew how it was going to end before you were one chapter in. Everyone knows that in books its usually the bad guy, the other, that the main character falls in love with and it was so cliche and obvious here that you just got bored of the romance very early on. This I feel was a let down point for the book. There was a lot of room for potential, for it to be stronger and more, well addictive in this nature. However, instead it was a little tiresome, boring and just lacking that needed something. However, I will grant the author the fact that she presented her characters well. She gave them a sense of personality and character which meant you could image them in your mind. What I didn't get was the whole mermaids swimming around naked rumour... not once as I was growing up had I ever believed that or known that because of the simple fact that everything I have ever seen and grown up knowing about mermaids, they were dressed.
I just think that the book was basic. It didn't hold anything special to it. The only thing special about it was the ending because it left you on a cliffhanger needing to know what was going to occur next. But that was the only thing I really liked about it fully. It wasn't a bad book, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't the best book either.
Aw, I loved this one! I do agree it was predictable, but it had the magic of a Disney movie for me (23 years old and I'll never get tired of watching them). I do love that cover, the model is beautiful.
