How far will Rose go to keep her promise?

The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir’s Academy was the deadliest ever in the school’s history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them. . . including Dimitri.

He’d rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa—the one she has sworn to protect no matter what—and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?

My Review
I have wanted to read this book for a very long time, but due to not being able to buy a cheap and yet good enough copy of it, I had to wait until it was in at the library. The library and receiving books has obviously now become more exciting than christmas and birthdays put together. What I like about this series is the fact that it doesnt matter when you last read the previous books in the series, you can still read the next one and quickly catch up and remember everything that has occured. It is almost as if the author has put in subtle hints about the previous novels, just to spark your mind back to life. This book was therefore just as moving and energetic as the others. There was a lot of captivating and detailed imagery that seemed to make the book spring to life, but also pulled you in. I actually felt like I was becoming rose as I was reading the novel, because of how life like and real it seemed to me. Dimitri, though he is a strigori in this novel, still seems as handsome as ever and when he tries to lure Rose into his realm, I began to feel that difficulty of knowing what was the right thing to do. The author portrays this very handsome and romantic feel about him through his words that you get this sense that you are falling for him, regardless of what he is and what he isn't. It just seems to me that when Richelle was writing about her characters, she made sure to connect with them herself so that she could really add this huge sense of flavour to them.

I love Rose's fiery nature though and the way that it is presented to us as the readers because it gives this more realistic feeling. What I often find in teenage books like this is that the characters are always displayed as some prissy easy going romantically falling in love person and that makes it a lot harder to believe and to relate to. However I just felt that everyting was done with this sense of preciseness that you could not consider it as fake, but instead could see it as this very possible real world, perhaps something that could just be out there and you do not know about. However, I did find myself growing weary and annoyed with Lissa for it seems that she is the character still wearing diapers and needing a babysitter. No matter what happens she always manages to seem to get herself in trouble and the problem is that she pulls in everyone that is around her and close to her into the problems as well. Which is why when Christian walked away from her, I held no sympathy nor sorrow for her. I felt that perhaps it was the kick up the back side she needed, Though of course there is stil that part of me that hopes they will get back together at some point in time.
Adrian is also a character of mystery. there is clearly a lot more going on than meets the eyes and whilst I may mourn over the current loss of dimitri and rose, I kind of hope that perhaps a little something will spark up between rose and adrien, after all wouldnt that make an interesting and intriguing plot to become captured in? Yes I am aware its the classic three way love triangle, but still, you can't help but see that soft centre that Adrian seems to hide away. I just love the way that this series flows so smoothly. none of it is cliche or overdone, none of it is slow moving or boring, it all seems to have this perfect essence and tone to it that just encaptures what needs to be given to the reader. this is by far one of my top ten series along with the house of night sereis and the mortal instrument series. I feel this is something I will come back to read even when I am in my fourties.

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing
