Chocolate Cake with Hitler by Emma Craigie

It seems a bit strange to read a story about people who actually lived with Hitler in his underground tunnel. Perhaps because it is not something that we are taught or told. All I was merely ever told was that it was believed that Hitler killed himself when he knew he had lost and that no good had come of his plans at all. But the story is a very pulling one that really seems to paint a whole new perception in the readers mind. It really seems to show how life for the Germans was just as torturous as it was for those who were forced to concentration camps or killed merely because they were the wrong kind of human. Yet it is the innocent lives of children that really capture the readers heart here in the book, because it shows how confused they must have been. To be told what was happening and yet to be told so little and few details that actually they had no idea or clue about any of it.

The piece was very well written in that it displays that of a real story, engaging the reader into a whole new world and showing them how torturous life can be. I loved the way it didnt reflect the book as all doom and gloom but show and resembled it as happy times as well. It taught me to appreciate the little things in life, and made me realize just how quickly these can all be torn away from us. I felt that the children were patient and wise to carry on in the life they were force to live for they did not show nor reflect fear, they merely resembled doing as they were told whilst getting it wrong sometimes. The flow of the book did have a realistic feel to it, and you could sort of sense yourself drifitng into the war frame, imaginaing yourself in that underground banker with barely anything to claim as yours.

I loved the fact that they were given the simplistic things to us, and yet what was considered a treat to them back in those days. It showed and reflected all the good and hard days and just seemed to add a whole new perspective on the outcome of the war, and just how many people it actually upset and tore apart.

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing
